From the book, Chapter 12. 0.7 and 0.65: write 0.7 as 0.70, and 70 hundredths beats 65. 3.4 + 1.25 = 4.65; lining up the right-hand ends gives 1.59, which is less than 3.4 alone. 2.4 × 1.3 = 2 + 0.6 + 0.4 + 0.12 = 3.12. 35% of 60: 10% is 6, so 30% is 18, and 5% is 3: 21.
