Your tax bands
Each band’s rate applies only to income above the previous band’s top. Leave the last band’s “up to” blank for “and above.”
Enter your income and bands, then press Calculate.
From the book — Chapter 3, “How Tax Brackets Really Work.” A higher band only ever taxes the slice of income that falls inside it — never the whole lot. That’s why your effective rate (total tax ÷ income) is always lower than your marginal rate (the band your last dollar lands in), and why “moving into a higher bracket” never leaves you worse off overall.
Country-neutral: you supply the bands, so this works anywhere — and it’s an illustration of the arithmetic, not tax advice. Real systems add allowances, credits, and separate social charges this simple model leaves out. Everything stays in your browser.
