LTV & Equity

Two numbers that decide your rate and your risk: how much of the place the lender owns (LTV) and how much is yours (equity) — and what a price fall does to both.

Enter the value and the balance owed, then press Calculate.
From the book — Chapter 6. Loan-to-value = loan ÷ value (the slice the lender funds); equity = value − loan (the slice that’s yours). A lower LTV usually unlocks a better rate. The stress test matters because a price fall shrinks your equity first — when the loan is bigger than the value, equity goes negative.
