Fuel vs EV Running Costs

Strip it to the fuel: cost per mile is the price of energy divided by how far that energy takes you. Compare petrol and electric on the same road.

From the book — Bonus chapter. Running cost per mile = energy price ÷ distance that energy buys. For petrol it’s price-per-litre ÷ distance-per-litre; for an EV it’s price-per-kWh ÷ distance-per-kWh. Multiply by your yearly mileage for the figure that actually hits your budget. (Fuel only — it ignores purchase price, insurance, servicing and tax.)

Use whatever fuel unit your price is quoted in, as long as the “distance per …” matches it. Everything stays in your browser.
