Dividing a Span Evenly

Divide a span evenly, whichever of the three real cases you have, and get marks to strike from one end.

Choose your case, enter the span and count, then press Calculate.
From the book — Chapter 4. Case A (points): gap = span ÷ (n − 1). Case B (items, gaps at the ends too): gap = (span − n×width) ÷ (n + 1). Case C (items, fixed end margins): gap = (span − 2×margin − n×width) ÷ (n − 1).

The fence-post trap — span ÷ n — is exactly what these three cases correct. Everything stays in your browser — no sign-up, nothing stored.
